Tip: Vermont Adult Learning helps adults strengthen basic skills and obtain their high school credentials.

I just had a great conversation with Mary and Jane from Vermont Adult Learning; they were working up some creative ideas for one of the writing classes. I know that students work hard at VAL, and the teachers do too.

Students use the VAL to help build foundation skills such as reading, writing, and math. Many obtain their GEDs or complete the Vermont Adult Diploma program; others drop in for basic computer instruction. English language learners take classes at the VAL, and there is a family literacy program where parents and children can learn together.

If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to improve your skills, or if you know someone who can benefit from structured adult learning, check out the Windham County VAL, which is part of Vermont’s Learning Works network. Their offices are on Birge Street in one of the old Estey Organ buildings. Or check out their website at http://www.vtadultlearning.org.
