Tip: The Auto Repair Reference Center is like having a whole library of Chilton manuals online.

Are you saving money by maintaining your own car? Good for you! The Auto Repair Reference Center on the BML website has detailed instructions on repairing or maintaining your vehicle. The database includes step-by-step instructions and illustrations for hundreds of makes and models, both domestic and foreign, back through the mid-1960s. For some manufacturers, the information goes back even further (got an old WWII Jeep?)

To log on, click the Resources button, then choose Do It Yourself > Auto Repair Reference Center. If you’re searching from home, the system will prompt you for your library card number. If you’re searching from inside the library, you’ll go directly to the database.

Once inside the database, choose the year, make, and model of your car. When you get to the Repair Topics page, choose Repair Procedures, and then click on the icons on the left side of the screen to open files for various systems of the car: Engine Electrical, Fuel System, Drive Train, etc. Instructions and pictures will appear on the main screen, beginning with the all-important precautions and warnings: don’t forget to read them! Then you can click through the instruction pages using the arrow icons.

Feel free to call or e-mail for help with the database. We don’t do oil changes, but we can answer lots of questions.
